Southport Marina

We started off the day looking for a local breakfast place.  Along the way we met a local who gave us a ride to a great local café called Local Cafe.  Walking back we checked out the businesses and homes along the main street which led straight to the water.  It was high tide at 9am and Fishy Fishy Café had ICW water lapping at its doorstep.  Passing by in the ICW we saw our buddies from yesterday, Sea Soul (Bahama bound) and Sun Cast (Cuban bound Canadians).

Southport had been a home for ship pilots in the 1800’s and many of the homes nearer to the water were built by them with many of the houses being over 200 years old.  The town is very picturesque and a local, born and raised here, told us that a lot of movies are filmed in town, no wonder, with well-kept stately houses, waterfront, boats, picket fences and mature oak trees lining the streets.
The people in the boat across the dock from us have done some cruising and are now here to settle down.  The woman, with a new realty license, just got a job two days ago at the Coldwell Banker Realty Office in town.

It is laundry day and Bob found a wet spot at the head of the bed, another leak to chase down!  For the rest of the day the mattress has been propped up with a fan in the stateroom to dry everything out.   I sanded the aft rail from fashion plate to fashion plate and applied a coat of varnish, sanding it down considerably more than originally planned as the one coat I had applied in Sandy Hook was wearing thin.  Future near goal: apply additional coats on a regular basis.

In the late afternoon we walked into town to get an ice cream treat at a shop we had seen in the morning.  A local car collector club group was on an outing there so we tried to sell the Chevy Newport.  Didn’t find a buyer but they said they would advertise it for us in their newsletter and online posts to other clubs.
